The mission of YMCA and the GLOW-YMLP Youth Development Progrаm is to empower the young people and develop the inherent potential they have by providing them with the skills and knowledge necessary to become active leaders in their communities. This is realized through experiential education that celebrates diversity, builds academic and social competencies.
GLOW-YMLP Clubs are youth-led clubs housed in diverse communities around the country. The clubs provide an opportunity for young men and women to become leaders in their communities. These youth are often GLOW or YMLP Camp alumni who, through GLOW and YMLP Club activities, are able to apply what they have learned at camp about leadership and civic engagement in their communities. Clubs hold two meetings monthly and are responsible for one community service project each school semester.
There are two different ways clubs can be realized, one is through regional clubs and the other one through the satellite clubs. Regional Clubs create spaces where club leaders and members follow a specific program with enhanced support from YMCA, while Satellite Clubs are mostly following the program of the closest regional club which is in their proximity, but also allowing their members to be creative and flexible in the implementation of the activities of their club.
The support which GLOW-YMLP Regional Clubs receive from YMCA includes funding, mentoring, and unique opportunities for training and skills development. These clubs have more rigorous national standards which they must complete to fulfill their obligations as a club. The organization of clubs in this way allows YMCA and the club coordinators to be more engaged in the club efforts.
GLOW-YMLP Satellite Clubs are more flexible in their responsibilities, and while they have the opportunity to receive more tangible support from YMCA, they also have the option of creating their own club experience. Satellite clubs are welcomed to participate in meetings and events held by their local Regional Club, but they are expected to take part in the service projects organized by this same local Regional Club. Satellite clubs also have the opportunity of transition into Regional Club in the future years.
WHO DO WE WORK WITH?
- GLOW-YMLP Clubs are developed and operated by YMCA with partnership from Peace Corps. Clubs are operated and staffed by YMCA staff, Peace Corps volunteers, and GLOW-YMLP camper alumni.
- Clubs are funded in large part by our partners and supporters including: OKTA, Mermeren Kombinat, SASA mine, TAV Airports, Alkaloid, Kromberg & Schubert, ESM and dozens of individual contributors to our annual crowdfunding campaign.
- We have also worked together with our friends at the US Embassy since the beginning of the GLOW-YMLP program.
GLOW-YMLP Clubs began in 2000 and 2016 respectively in order to provide camp alumni with an opportunity to apply the lessons they learned at Camps GLOW and YMLP in their communities. With a strong commitment to equality and diversity GLOW and YMLP clubs focus on curriculum tracks like environmentalism, civic responsibility, personal development, leadership, youth employability and women’s empowerment. Clubs prepare and propel youth to compose their leadership skills so that they may become the leaders in their communities, and in the world. GLOW-YMLP Clubs formally partnered with YMCA in 2016.
After the end of Camp GLOW and YMLP Camp comes the best part of the year – forming GLOW and YMLP clubs and implementing community service projects in home communities of camp alumni.
GLOW & YMLP Clubs are eligible to apply for grants up to 5000 MKD to complete their service projects. This application will be evaluated by the Clubs Coordinators and staff from YMCA and the most successful applications will be awarded funds.

In the first phase we have the Training Course focused on implementing the concept of gamification in youth work, in the frames of the Play the way!
The Youth Exchange is designed for people working with youth in various contexts and it uses their context as a creative base for combining game elements with work. Our intention is to create a safe and supportive non-formal learning environment, where our participants can experience and experiment with various gamification-tools and receive a brief but impactful input in the position of the facilitator, mentor, and coach, during the TC and also during the Youth Exchange.
This will take place at the The eco-center Švýcárna near Adamov, Czech Republic:
Play the Way – Training Course: 4. – 10. 11. 2019
The second phase will be:
Play the Way – Youth Exchange: 11. – 19. 05. 2020
For this event there is placement for 3 Macedonians to the TC and 5 Macedonians to the YE (one participant being the Group Leader, has to participated in the TC). Participation/Sending fee is not yet determined, but there will be more info soon! Please email email@example.com if interested or for with any questions!
This is the sixth year in a row we organize the Reception for Corporate Partners of the GLOW & YMLP Youth Development Program.
During the event, we share our gratitude to our corporate partners who have been with us sponsoring the youth program, but also investing in the education of young people and future leaders of Macedonia.
Beside our corporate partners, at the event we invite also other companies who value and practice the Corporate Social Responsibility in their operations and contribute to the overall community development. For those who are coming at the event for the first time, we provide opportunity to inform them about two premium leadership camps for young people, the GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) and YMLP (Young Men’s Leadership Project) camps as well as for our camper alumni community service GLOW & YMLP clubs .
In the previous years, the GLOW & YMLP Youth Development Program have relied heavily on U.S. Embassy funding. For this program to become sustainable, the necessary support must come from Macedonia’s companies. The corporate representatives have the opportunity to: 1) demonstrate their corporate social responsibility; 2) build good will for their company and the products and services they provide; and 3) create a legacy in developing the future leaders of Macedonia, by being our corporate sponsor.
At the event the guests also will have opportunity to listen former campers about their experiences at camps this summer and how GLOW and YMLP camps have helped them to shape their personality and to become individuals who are today – active, engaged, and confident Macedonian leaders. These are the Macedonia’s bright and inspiring leaders for the future. Investing in GLOW and YMLP is investing in the future of Macedonia.
The event is hosted by YMCA and our main partner Peace Corps.
Attending the event is possible only by invitation from the YMCA due limited space.

YMCA, Who Are We?
At YMCA, we are a small team of 3 experiential education specialists, and 1 Peace Corps Volunteer with the motto to empower youth! We manage Macedonia’s premier leadership programs: Young Men’s Leadership Project (YMLP), and Girls Leading Our World (GLOW).
Why Empower Youth?
Unfortunately for many young Macedonians, they often don’t feel compelled to actively participate in their community. In fact, many initiatives focused on youth engagement such as volunteering projects, local community events, or local civic organizations often struggle to maintain and recruit participants.
What Are We Doing Differently?
Our approach starts by first identifying the most passionate service-minded youth from every community. The 2019 program had representation from 34 municipalities!
Starting in July, these select student leaders join us in Krushevo to learn about their unique leadership style and the fundamentals of project design and community service. In addition to the classroom lessons, students are fully immersed in English language and build long-lasting relationships with other service-minded leaders from their community. After camp, its these relationships that keep our youth enthusiastically engaged in the YMLP and GLOW clubs.
What Exactly Are YMLP and GLOW Clubs?
The YMLP and GLOW clubs program is an initiative that started in 2015 to allow camper alumni to apply their leadership and service training within their own community. Each club has a dedicated mentor to provide coaching and leadership training to build upon lessons from the camp experience. In addition, each club has the opportunity to design and submit a project proposal to receive funding from YMCA to purchase the materials they need to implement their localized service project.
What is Our Impact?
Last year alone, 16 different GLOW and YMLP clubs dedicated in sum 1000 hours to community service across 22 unique service projects. In collaboration with their dedicated mentors, our youth clubs completed needs assessments across their communities and designed projects focused on: special needs youth, environmentalism, food security, life skills education, and city beautification. Rather than wait for opportunities, our youth create their own opportunities, but they need your help and contributions to support their service!
How Can You Help?
This year, we initiated the crowdfunding campaign to raise $200 for each of our 14 clubs to offset the materials cost associated with their projects. Previous service projects have used their grants to purchase: gardening equipment, paint, trash bags, gloves, construction materials, and office stationery among other items. Your donation will ensure that the clubs program continues to thrive and grow! Let us know if you have a specific club you would like to support, and we’d be happy to direct your funds to that club! 2020 Clubs Include:
- Sveti Nikole

Every dollar helps! We are looking forward to your partnership in empowering the youth of Macedonia!
The GLOW & YMLP Impact Summit is a national event in which GLOW and YMLP clubs leaders come together and share their positive practices in working on service projects back in their own communities, inspire each other and learn new skills they can become agents of change to make a greater impact back home.
The goal of the event is to bring staff and campers alumni from the GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) and YMLP (Young Men Leadership Project) camps together to highlight the service the campers and staff completed in their home communities both in their local GLOW or YMLP clubs and alone.
The event is also a great way to bring the staff and campers from GLOW and YMLP together to talk and share about what everyone has been doing since camp in the summer. The invitation is extended to all camp alumni from GLOW and YMLP 2018 as well as club leaders and active members who have completed a service project in the fall semester.
At this years event will attend 90 participants from across the country!
We can’t wait to see all of the campers from our 2018 camps and talk about the impact we have made in our communities since our amazing weeks together over the summer. Of course, we will be having some fun too.
The Impact Summit in 2018 is supported by:
Grant from European Endowment for Democracy
and the overall program in 2018 has been supported by grant from Foundation Open Society Macedonia and sponsorships and donations from our corporate partners:
OKTA as gold sponsor, SASA mine and Tinex as silver sponsors,
Alkaloid, Pekabesko and Zikol as bronze sponsors and
our corporate supporters: TAV Airports, EVN, TTK Bank.
and from lots of individual donors who fully support our cause and the mission of our youth development program via our crowd funding campaign.
This program since the very beginning has been supported by the US Embassy.
